Punjab police today drew criticism from all quarters, including the victim's kin, for revealing the name of the 30-year old woman, who was abducted and raped by six men. The cops released the victim's name in a press note. According to reports, the press note was issued after the FIR was lodged by police on the basis of complaints. A lawyer, Rahul Verma, told reporters that under Section 228 (a) of the IPC, naming a rape victim is a punishable offence. Meanwhile, the incident has spurred an outpouring of anger from womenfolk in Punjab, who feel stalked by the fear of rape. Meanwhile a designated court at Gurudaspur remanded six persons arrested in the gang rape case to police custody for three days. The police mentioned that efforts are on to trace and arrest the seventh accused person.
