In a major development in the 2010 Delhi Common Wealth Games Scam case the Delhi High Court has today leveled charges of corruption and conspiracy against former Commonwealth Games Organising Committee (CGOC) chairman Suresh Kalmadi and 10 others. Besides Kalmadi, former CWG OC Secretary General Lalit Bhanot and nine others had been charge sheeted by the CBI for allegedly "illegally" awarding a contract to install Timing, Scoring and Results system for the 2010 CWG to Swiss Timing, at an exorbitant cost allegedly causing a loss of over Rs. 90 crore to the state exchequer. The other accused in the case are the OC's Director General V K Verma, Director General (Procurement) Surjit Lal, Joint Director General (Sports) ASV Prasad and Treasurer M Jayachandran.
