Even as protestors took to streets in Kerala pressing their demand for the resignation of Rajya Sabha deputy chairperson P J Kurien, over his alleged involvement in the 1996 Suryanelli rape case, ignoring all, the Congress today gave a clean chit to him. The angry protestors belonging to the Democratic Youth Federation of India are firm on their demands for Kurien's resignation and have demanded a reinvestigation into the entire case. Kurien who is under pressure has now sought time to meet Congress Chief Sonia Gandhi and is likely to meet her today. Pressure grew on Congress Chief to act against Kurien after the victim's mother wrote to her asking her to intervene in the interest of justice for her daughter.
