Defending the government's decision to legalize the anti-rape ordinance, Union finance minister P Chidambaram today said that the ordinance will act as an immediate deterrent against potential criminals. Chidambaram further claimed that the government has not rejected any of the recommendations forwarded by the Justice JS Verma panel in the ordinance. Chidambaram further said that consultation will take place on the proposed Bill before replacing the ordinance recently passed by President Pranab Mukherjee. The ordinance has included 'sexual assault' under the definition of rape.
