Allan Donald - The 'White Lightning'
Pace legend Allan Anthony Donald, the first South African to take 300 Test wickets, was born on October 20, 1966 at Bloemfontein. In his prime Donald, who also enjoyed a long and successful career with Warwickshire, was athletic, a hostile and fast bowler with a smooth run-up and beautiful action.
Donald's ferocious duel with Michael Atherton at Trent Bridge in 1998 is remembered as one of the most electrifying and intense periods of Test match cricket in history. Donald was the last man dismissed when he was run out in that heart-break of a World Cup semi-final in 1999.
He took 330 wickets in his 72-match Test career and 272 wickets from 164 ODIs. Donald has 1216 wickets to his name from 316 first-class matches and 684 wickets in his 458-match List A career.
