Gumla district in India's Jharkhand state has remained a hub of Naxal activities. The threat posed by Naxals and economic instability often force the villagers to leave their homes and migrate to safer places. However, a number of government interventions have helped improve the situation. In one such effort the villagers of Ghagra, Bishanpur, and Bharno in Gumla were provided technical support to grow vegetables. The villagers are happy as they are now earning money and have become self-dependent. Years of Naxal violence has led to economic backwardness of many areas of Jharkhand.
