Disillusioned by the rebel way of life, nine Maoists laid arms before police in Khunti district of Jharkhand in a bid to put their life back on track. Talking to reporters, police dubbed the mass surrender as a big achievement. The surrendered Maoists hoped for a ray of hope to re-invent their lives. All the surrendered maoists, facing several Naxal-related cases in Ranchi, and other districts, were given Rs 50,000 each and the police officers promised to give them whatever benefits they are entitled to receive as per the Jharkhand Surrender Policy.
