Siliguri, Jan. 3 (ANI): The student organisations in West Bengal have given a call for strike in West Bengal, as a mark of their protest against the gang-rape of 23-year-old in New Delhi, who died on December 29, at a Singapore-based hospital.
The schools and universities remained closed on Thursday in Siliguri district following the instructions of the All-India Democratic Students' Organisation (AIDSO).
Nomita Chakraborty, Secretary, AIDSO, said that they had called for a strike in the wake of the Delhi gang rape incident.
"The incident which took place in Delhi and the unfortunate death of the victim sparked protests all over the country. The AIDSO has also called for a students' strike in West Bengal," said Chakraborty.
"We press our demand before the government that stringent action should be taken against sexual harassment in the schools," she added.
