London, May 26 (ANI): The coach of Champions League winners Bayern Munich, Jupp Heynckes, has said that they were determined to win the League as it was the time for some of his players to win a title of this extent.
With a winning goal scored by Bayern star Arjen Robben, the German giants beat rivals Borussia Dortmund 2-1 to clinch the Champions League crown.
According to the Independent, Heynckes, who has one more match, the German Cup final against Stuttgart, before leaving the Bundesliga side, said that for players like Robben, Bayern skipper Philipp Lahm and Bastian Schweinsteiger, it was time to win something like the Champions League.
Stating that the team has broken all records, the German said that he believes that his team have made history whether they complete a Treble or not, saying that no team has played such a consistent season at such a high level like Bayern in the whole history of the Bundesliga.
According to Heynckes, the reason behind the success of his team was that they had upped the ante and did not resign themselves to their fate despite losing the Champions League final last season.
The veteran coach further said although that his players will be allowed to celebrate for a day or two, they will have to concentrate on preparing for the final from early next week itself.
Meanwhile, Heynckes said that Bayern could be at the start of a new era and hinted that Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski will be joining them along with his teammate Mario Gotze, adding that his successor Pep Guardiola will be able to take over a perfectly functioning team.
Robben also said that scoring the winning goal in the Champions' League final for Bayern Munich had finally erased his tag as a loser. After having missed a penalty in last season's final on Bayern's home ground against his former club Chelsea.
However, Dortmund's coach Jurgen Klopp was not disheartened at the results, promising that his beaten team would return for another Champions' League final. (ANI)
