Thorpe replaces Gooch as England ODI batting coach

London, Jan 27(ANI): England one-day boss Ashley Giles has axed Graham Gooch as team's batting coach in the limited overs format and Graham Thorpe would replace him for the New Zealand series.

Gooch would now concentrate on preparing England batsmen in the longest version of the game, the Daily Mirror reports.

While England's Test -batsmen produced some spectacular results before Christmas in the 2-1 series win over India, their New Year form in the one-day game has been woeful.

In three consecutive matches they have failed to post a total that could even trouble the Indian side and Gooch is the man who has been asked to step aside.

England supremo Hugh Morris said Gooch is going to focus on Test match cricket and preparing batsmen for that format, adding Thorpe, who has been working alongside the Lions as one of our coaches for the last 12 months or so, will be going to New -Zealand as one-day batting coach.

Morris added they are very fortunate to have a very experienced one-day cricketer who has worked with a lot of the players who will be in New Zealand, adding he has made a good impression as a -batting coach and he is looking forward to the opportunity to go there. (ANI)
