Ranchi, Jan. 24: The state drinking water and sanitation department is burning the midnight oil to fulfil its target of installing 40,000 deep bore tube wells by the end of this fiscal under the National Rural Drinking Water Programme.
The department also plans to take up 1,100 new projects from the next financial year to facilitate piped water supply in far-flung villages.
Additional chief secretary Sudhir Prasad told The Telegraph more than 40 per cent of the tube wells under NRDWP had been installed, with just over two months left in 2012-13.
Groundwork for the remaining tube wells was on in full swing and that they would be in place by March 31.
A sum of Rs 148 crore have been made available to the department for the Rs 178-crore project. During recent review meetings, officials have said that Rs 105 crore was spent till December 31.
