Tendulkar, who turned 39 on April 24, met Congress chief Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi on Thursday morning and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh later in the day. He was accompanied by his wife Anjali.

Sachin's nomination to the Rajya Sabha took the country by surprise. With Sachin giving no indication of retirement from international cricket it will be a tough act for him to do justice to both his on field career and his parliamentary duties.

The cricketer, who already holds an honorary position in the Indian Air Force, is in Delhi for Mumbai Indians' IPL game against Delhi Daredevils on Friday.
