Ryder unlikely to be rushed back into Kiwi team

Wellington, Feb 11(ANI): New Zealand Cricket's medical staff has decided to exercise caution with Jessie Ryder after he tore a calf muscle, and have decided not to rush him back for the one-day series against South Africa later this month.

The talented Ryder hasn't played for New Zealand since the Test victory over Australia in Hobart in December. He suffered a torn calf muscle while jogging to back up a throw during Wellington's Twenty20 match on December 27

"The tests are the ultimate aim. If he's back and in form for the one-dayers, then great. Fitness wise he'd be OK but getting him time in the middle is the issue," Stuff.co.nz quoted Ryder's manager Aaron Lee, as saying.

National selection manager Kim Littlejohn said Ryder's rehabilitation was going well, but was noncommittal about his comeback date.

"The good thing for Jesse is there's plenty of time on his side to go out and score some runs and prove that he's fit and in form," said Littlejohn.

"We're giving him time because we want to make sure he gets it right. Jesse's had a few problems with injuries and maybe we haven't given him time to overcome those," he said. (ANI)
