The new vice-chancellor of Bhim Rao Ambedkar Bihar University, Kumaresh Prasad Singh, has begun his innings on a rough pitch with student bodies mounting pressure to get the date of their delayed results revised.
The results of the 2009-2012 batches were published on January 14 this year. But the students are not willing to accept the late results.
Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) general secretary Keshri Nandan said: "The university should have published the results by December 31, 2012. As the results have been published late, many students will lose the opportunity to take competitive exams this year."
The university had conducted the exam in June-July 2012. The Students have been demanding that the results be published at the earliest since November last year. "But the university did not heed to our demands and published the results only in January," said ABVP secretary Dhananjai Kumar. He added: "The career of more than 54,000 students of 39 constituent and 25 non-constituent colleges would suffer because of the cruel joke played by the university authorities."
A delegation of student bodies, including the ABVP, met the vice-chancellor on Wednesday afternoon. They staged a protest on campus and forced the administrative building of the varsity to close down. Vice-chancellor Singh said: "Only the examination board is empowered to revise the date of the results. The issue would be referred to the board soon."
"An emergency meeting of the board has been called on February 14. We are considering revision of the dates of the result," he added.
