Kishangarh (Rajasthan), July 9 (ANI): Expressing serious concern over large number of vacancies in Central Universities, President Pranab Mukherjee on Tuesday requested the Ministry of Human Resource Development to take expeditious steps to fill them up.
President Mukherjee, who attended the 2nd Convocation of Central University of Rajasthan at Kishangarh, said 38 percent teaching positions in Central Universities are vacant.
Addressing the students, President Mukherjee said knowledge is an important channel for shaping the destiny of nations.
"Economic growth depends on a successful mobilization of the knowledge economy, which in turn has its basis in a robust education system. Pursuit of academic excellence should be accompanied by the quest for moral development," said President Mukherjee.
"Their preparedness in life should be on the foundation of our essential civilizational values of love for motherland; performance of duty; compassion for all; tolerance for pluralism; respect for women; honesty in life; self-restraint in conduct, responsibility in action and discipline," he added.
President Mukherjee called upon Central University of Rajasthan to develop a strong innovation culture.
He said Innovation is the key to progress and prosperity.
"The process of innovation converts knowledge into social good and economic wealth. It encourages the engagement of young talent with the society to improve the quality of life," he added.
On the occasion, President Mukherjee inaugurated an Innovation Exhibition and interacted with Innovators and inspired teachers at University campus.
"We need to equip our innovators to face global competition by giving their innovations modern shape and form," he said. (ANI)
