Imphal, Nov. 5: Mizoram emerged men's champions, while Manipur won the women's title in the 76th men and 20th women's Eastern India Weightlifting Championship, 2012, which concluded at SAI-Special Area Games hall here last evening.
In the men's section, Mizoram secured 617 points by winning four gold medals and three silver medals to occupy the top slot.
Manipur were runners-up with 528 points. The team bagged four gold medals and one bronze medal.
In the women's section, Manipur tallied 528 points to emerge champions with two gold and three silvers.
Mizoram was the runners-up, securing 504 points from two gold and two silver medals.
Manipur lifter Kh. Jojo (69kg) was adjudged the Best Lifter in the men's competition while Lalchahini (69kg) of Mizoram was declared the Best Lifter of the women's section. Besides Manipur and Mizoram, states of Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Tripura, West Bengal and Bihar took part in the championship. Manipur won the overall champion's title both in the men and women's competitions in the 75th men's and 19th women's weightlifting championships.
