Ashok Menaria emerged the unlikely hero with the ball as he took his first career fiver – 5-38 in 10 overs – to bowl out New Zealand ‘A’ for 216, leading to a six-wicket win for India ‘A’.
India ‘A’ needed just a ball under 39 overs to smash down the target, with half-centuries for skipper Unmukt Chand and Mandeep Singh.
With the win, India have taken an unbeatable 2-0 lead in the series with one game left at the ACA-VDCA Stadium in Vizag.
Menaria had played his part with the ball in the first game as well, taking 3-43 bowling his left-arm spinners.

New Zealand’s one-down batsman Carl Cachopa continued his good run on the tour scoring 80 in this game. But he had little support from his colleagues.
Menaria’s good run with the ball continued as he had Colin Munro caught at mid-off in his first over. He continued to bowl unchanged for six more overs during which he had Daryl Mitchell caught down the ground.
Chand reintroduced Menaria in the slog overs and the spinner took three wickets in eight balls to wrap the innings up.
Menaria then hit a 30-ball 37 to wrap up the chase in the company of Kedar Jadhav.
The final game of the series would be played at the same venue on September 12.
Toss: India ‘A’.
Brief Scores: New Zealand ‘A’ 216 (47.2 overs – C Cachopa 80; A Menaria 5-38) lost to India ‘A’ 217-4 (38.5 overs – U Chand 59, M Singh 59; M Gillespie 2-59) by six wickets. India go 2-0 up in the series.
