Calcutta: An injury may have forced him to miss the series against Pakistan and England, but Manoj Tiwary sounded upbeat before the Irani Trophy match for Rest Of India and the warm-up tie against Australia for India A.
“It’s really unfortunate that the injury forced me to miss the series against Pakistan and England. But I’m confident as far as my preparations are concerned.
“I’ve played quite a few club matches at the CC&FC and am happy with my batting in the lead up to these important matches,” Tiwary said on the sidelines of the prize distribution ceremony of the 24th The Telegraph Schools’ Chess Championship, at Gorky Sadan, on Thursday.
The India international and Bengal captain also rued missing out on valuable match practice as the wet pitches at Eden Gardens led to the abandonment of the Kalighat-East Bengal CAB Senior First Division League game.
“I was really surprised with the turn of events. The game had been scheduled long time ago. I was very eager to play this match, as scoring against a team like East Bengal would have boosted my confidence further.
“It seems there has been a miscommunication… But yes, I missed out on a match,” was how Tiwary put it.
Asked about the upcoming warm-up tie against Australia, Tiwary said: “It’s another opportunity I’ve got. All I need to do is try and grab these opportunities with good performances to be back in the reckoning.”
