Kuala Lumpur, Feb. 3 (ANI): Malaysia's Home Ministry will be meeting film distributor, Lotus Fivestar AV, next week over the banned Tamil film Vishwaroopam.

Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said that the Ministry needed time to review the problem and find a proper solution to the matter.

He said that the owner of the distribution company is a close friend and he has no doubt they will be able to come up with an amicable solution.

According to the Star, the film, produced by popular Tamil actor Kamal Hassan who also starred in it, dealt with international terrorism.

Tamil Nadu had banned the movie after criticisms by Muslim groups in the southern Indian state.

The actor is currently battling in court for the rights to screen the movie.

It was reported last week that Film Censorship Board had initially approved Viswaroopam for public screening in Malaysia and the movie was shown in local cinemas on Jan 24.

The approval, however, was withdrawn the next day in accordance with a directive from the Home Ministry following concerns that the film portrayed Islam in a negative light, the report said.

Hishammuddin said issues relating to race and religion could spark disunity and they had to be resolved rationally, the report added. (ANI)
