New Delhi, Sept. 18 (ANI): External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid will visit Canada later this month, as part of the first round of strategic dialogue between the two countries.
"When Prime Minister Harper, who visited India last year in November, there was an agreement that the External Affairs Ministers will meet annually for a strategic dialogue. ...The talks between the two External Affairs Ministers will be the first round of these talks on September 22," MEA spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said.
Akbaruddin also confirmed that Khurshid would also travel to Ottawa, where he will meet senior ministers including the Minister of Economy, the Minister for Trade, Immigration and Natural Resources.
The MEA announced that the External Affairs Minister is expected to travel to the United Nations Headquarters in New York to join in to the U.N. General Assembly, after his Canadian visit.
India has shared a long-standing bilateral relationship with Canada, and in recent years has closely worked together to enhance cooperation on mutually important issues.
Several high-level meetings between the two countries have taken place in the recent years, including ones at the Prime Ministerial level.
In 2009 and 2012 Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper visited India, while Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh visited Canada in 2010. (ANI)
