Kapp sends Pakistan crashing out of Women's World Cup

Cuttack, Feb 5 (IANS) South Africa's Marizanne Kapp sent Pakistan crashing out of the ICC Women's World Cup after the 23-year-old from Port Elizabeth struck her maiden ODI century at Barabati Stadium here Tuesday to secure a Super Sixes berth for her team.

After a disappointing start, Kapp (102) and Dane van Niekerk stabilised South Africa's innings which ended at 202 for five, and later Kapp proceeded to clean up the Pakistan batting line-up for 81 with her useful medium-pace bowling.

In other Group B fixture here, Australia tussled with old foes New Zealand in an exciting match in front of some 4,000 fans that saw White Ferns' captain Suzie Bates score a century, but her efforts were in vain as Australia's Meg Lanning made a stunning 112 and Jess Cameron's 82 secured the side a seven-wicket victory.

In the Group A day-match in Mumbai's Bandra-Kurla Complex, England showed their superior bowling display against the West Indies when the side were dismissed for a meagre 101 in just 36.4 overs and England secured themselves a six-wicket victory after Danielle Wyatt led from the front.

With their loss, Pakistan will now play the 7-8 position play-off Feb 7 at Barabati Stadium.
