Johnson says was hoping for injury to find escape from 'poor' form 'couple of years ago'

Sydney, Oct 20 (ANI): Australian fast bowler Mitchell Johnson has admitted that he was hoping for an injury to get away from the game a couple of years ago as he was plagued by a lack of form and confidence at that time.

However, the now-revitalised left-armer is expected to be a part of the first Test squad to face England during the Ashes at the Gabba next month following a rebuilding of his action during the one-day tour of India.

According to, Johnson felt so low some time ago that he began wishing for an injury to get away from the game, and his wish came true when he suffered a stress fracture of the foot two years ago, which ruled him out of the Australian summer against New Zealand and India.

The report mentioned that the injury saved the selectors from dropping him and it appeared the end for him so poor was his form and confidence, although Johnson said that he felt that having his injury at that time was beneficial for him as he got the chance to leave the game for a while and focus on boosting his mental and physical faculties.

However, Johnson said that he has freshened up mentally and got his strength back, adding that he has lengthened his run-up, gotten some more momentum through the crease, and has improved his lines and pace. (ANI)
