According to reports in England, bowling spearhead James Anderson played as many as 3 Test matches in the Ashes series with a broken rib. Anderson was struck on his ribs by a delivery from Australian bowler Peter Siddle and ended up having a broken rib.
The source said,
“It was suspected that it was broken straight away but it wasn’t confirmed until ahead of the fourth Test in Melbourne when it was decided to get an X-ray done.
“There’s nothing you can do to treat broken ribs anyway, so it was a case of just getting on with things.”
Even with a broken rib, Anderson played the full series as he took pain killers to reduce the pain. Prior to the boxing day Test match at MCG, Anderson felt some discomfort and underwent a medical examination by the staff. The reports suggested that he had a broken rib.
Anderson however played on because England were in dire need of a win as they were 3 nil down in the series.
