AUCKLAND: The struggling Suresh Raina may have been put out of his misery by an injury after he was struck a painful blow on his left elbow while batting during a nets session on Thursday.
Raina looked like he was in absolute agony and ice packs were brought to relieve his pain. He did not bat after sustaining the injury and later said that the pitch was slightly wet, hence he was unable to negotiate the delivery.
The Ghaziabad batsman has found it hard to come to terms with bouncy overseas conditions. He struggled in the ODIs in South Africa and was shown up in the first ODI against New Zealand. In the second match, however, Raina gave a better account of himself as he scored a brisk 35, although India lost the match – and their No.1 ODI ranking – by fifteen runs.
Although the Indian team management said that Raina was fine and would play in the 3rd ODI, the
left-hander appeared to be distinctly uncomfortable.

VARUN AARON MAY PLAY
The practice session also saw coach Duncan Fletcher interact extensively with India's failing openers, Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma, even as skipper MS Dhoni oversaw the proceedings. Also seen was young Varun Aaron having an extended bowl under the guidance of the coach, which may indicate that he may finally replace the wayward Ishant Sharma for the third game.
