Calcutta (The Telegraph): Having entered the international cricket scene with a bang, Saurabh Tiwary disappeared from the public view with a whimper.
Saurabh, who rode a brilliant stint with Mumbai Indians in IPL-III, was handed an opportunity to don the national colours against Australia at Visakhapatnam in October, 2010. He played his last match for India two months later against New Zealand in Chennai. “All I can do is play well and hope that the selectors take notice,” said the Jharkhand captain.
Once considered a swashbuckling prospect, form and injury got in the way of his meteoric rise. “I injured my shoulder in Cuttack, in January last year (2011). I was later sent to England for treatment.”
Tiwary, in fact, had a cyst removed from his neck late last year. “I’m fully recovered and now I’m raring to go.” he said.
On being asked if Bengal were the favourites for the Vijay Hazare trophy, he said, “With Dada (Sourav Ganguly) in the team their confidence will definitely be high. But their batting is weak since there is no Manoj (Tiwary).”
