    Gambhir backs India's rotation policy

India's decision to rotate openers through the series saw Sachin Tendulkar miss the Adelaide match on Sunday.

Adelaide, February 13 (AFP): Opening batsman Gautam Gambhir says India's memorable four-wicket win over Australia in their one-day international had vindicated the team's controversial rotation policy.

India's decision to rotate openers through the series saw champion batsman Sachin Tendulkar miss the Adelaide match on Sunday, denying him another chance to score his 100th international century.

The decision to rotate players has angered the likes of Indian great Sunil Gavaskar, who believes the best team should always take the field.

However, Tendulkar's absence enabled Gambhir to return to the side to partner Virender Sehwag at the top of the order and he produced a man-of-the-match performance with 92 from 111 balls.

Gambhir said a busy playing schedule meant rotating players was a legitimate part of international cricket, adding that the Indians were blessed with the playing depth to benefit from the tactic.

"The amount of cricket we play it is always important to rotate players and keep them fresh," he said on Sunday.

"Australia rested Mike Hussey as well because they wanted to keep him fresh."

"Now that we have started rotating our players it is a good sign because we know that we've got a lot of playing strength and someone like Rohit (Sharma) or (Suresh) Raina, it gives them an extra opportunity."

"It is important to rotate everyone, there is a long way to go in the series, there are five games left."

"It is a team game and I totally back that rotation policy."

Gambhir praised the emergence of young paceman Umesh Yadav, who picked up two important wickets on Sunday to continue the impressive form he showed during the one-sided Test series.

"Umesh for me is the find of the tour, someone who can clock 150 consistently," he said.

"We can start giving back to the opposition what we have been receiving for years and years."

"Someone who can hit the deck hard, and hit 150-plus consistently, can rattle any batsman in the world."

"He is someone who should play for India for a long time and develop as a world-class bowler."

I accept CRICKET is a team game and the greatness is determined by the number of games you won for your country.. So tell me even PELE played a team game, even MARADONA played a team game. and they did well for their country, They won the matches But not individually. THEIR team were best among the world when they played.. SO ANY ONE READING THIS ARTICLE CAN NAME even 2 players of PLAYING eleven in which PELE played or MARADONA featured ???? Personally saying I don't know I have to google it. And I bet 98% of the readers also wont be knowing.. So why they are GREATS and only they are remembered.. When they also wont have won the WC for their countries alone. Just because they were too good to WATCH and FOLLOW. and same is the case with SACHIN too.. He is the best the game has seen. Don't judge with the number of games he won. The number of times he got low scores. JUDGE HIM with the SHOTS he plays. The impact he has on the game ITSELF.. THE crowd puller.. and Accept it SACHIN may not happen to INDIA again.. He is GOD's gift so if you can't praise it don't be too harsh to curse him GUYS... Those who have seen SACHIN play are part of history. Because after 30 - 40 years. You can say it and You will say it with proud that I have seen HIM play.... and after generations also his name will echo stronger than any one elseeeeeeeeee... So I pray that till he can Keep playing SACHIN... no body knows the last 5 scores of any other players, But even the critiszers would be knowing the last 10 innings scores of SACHIN... Why when ever he scores 10 runs. MEDIA... Commentators... Fans Followers... and even his team mates in one or the other corner keep saying MAY BE this is the day for his CENTURY.. So lets pray dude he comes good and play as long as he and GOD wants him to play.

Why the discussion related to SACHIN always attracts so many curious reader including criticizers... Well I want to post one simple question to every one. Can any one name one good thing that INDIA has which when ever INDIA keep in front of the world, the world has to bow to it and has to say. Can it be population.. NO.. Can it be Corruption. I don't think.. Is India financially RICH.. Is it super power. well no.. Do we have Best education system. NO Do we have superb HEALTH system. No. But when ever India tells to the WORLD we have one MAN who has most runs.. Most Centuries, Most X, Y, Z they have to accept.. Even I accept no one is perfect. He is not GOD but I believe even his enemies don't hate him. They may criticize him But rarely any one hates him.. He has been GEL used to keep the MOST diverse society of the WORLD intact for over 2 decades. So many players came, So many went off... Tell me when ever others batted did SACHIN asked them to play with WICKET instead of BAT... Then why in close to 1.5 centuries of Cricket history any players have such an IMPACT to such a big society.. Accept the fact that people likes seeing him even for 2 deliveries on the PITCH.. He may not be a match winner but definitely the greatest CROWD puller.. The cricket fraternity has ever seen.. There are so many greats but all will complain that no body gets the due credit and he always get the limelight. IS THAT LIME LIGHT created by HIM.... no Why people judge persons popularity with the number of brands he endorses or the number of advertisements he features in... PLAYING FOR INDIA itself is the greatest achievement in any INDIAN sports persons can achieve. Now other thing that follow with it is mere a coincidence.. He has been there man when no body else stood. So at least he deserve better respect from every one. Even DRAVID, LAXMAN, SHEWAG, and all the greats man.. Why in their absence even IND vs ENG matches went crowd less in the stadiums known for huge crowds across the world... Accept it cricket is not only physical or mental sports in INDIA but also emotional sport and till he is there many will be following him IRRESPECTIVE of how many he scores.

Please don't disturb and don't hurt Tendulkar. He is a no.1 batsman in the world.I remember , Sachin's father died during the 1999 world cup.Sachin left the tournament mid-way to attend the last rites of his father, thereby missing a match. He came back after 3 days, he played the first match against Kenya and scored an unbeaten 140.During one of the matches, Sachin was hit by a snorter from Waqar Younis, and he started bleeding after that. But the man he is, he completed his innings, scored a half century, and saved the match for India. So many times Sachin has played many winning innings for India.Don't forget it.Every Indian fans waiting for his 100th century.Sachin know the time for his retirement. Let him play don't ask about his retirement. We really Proud to have Sachin Tendulkar. He is great.

In post match press conference, on the omission of Sachin, Gambhir told "Sunday's team was the best eleven. We don't want names. We want people who can deliver." If it is so, who stopped Gambhir, Dhoni and Sehwag to deliver in test matches in Australia. Sachin's performance was better than these players. Sachin's performance always was top class against Australia except this series. Steve Waugh once told that they fear India, because of only Sachin. Sachin never had technical short coming. In this tour, somehow he is loosing his concentration and getting out. Now if all this planning is going on for 2015 World cup, I don't think Raina fit to this team. Raina never will get success in Australian and New Zealand pitch. He has a specific weakness against short bowl and it is proved. Sachin was not rested, he was dropped. If team management thinks that they don't require Sachin any more and they want to give chances to young players, what is the meaning of inclusion of Sachin in team squad. It is utmost disgrace to drop players like Sachin.
      • Aditya 3 months ago
I think Sachin and sehwag is losing their concentration not due to great players of AUS. but due to Dhoni’s contribution . Doni is doing everything to put these two
players in tension. .Sachin was dropped for this only . this is insult Sachin.

The following comments was written by a person called Mukund from New Delhi, Delhi on an article: Break sought by Tendulkar: Team management. I am just posting it here.

All those who are jealous of Sachin's success are requested to read the article 'Seniors vs juniors: The spurious debate by Santosh Desai in today's Times of India. It will open their eyes. Some facts from the said article are as under:

1.The so-called youngsters are anything but; when measured in terms of matches played and the number of opportunities received to play in the last few seasons. For instance, Raina has 137 caps, Kohli has 76, and Rohit Sharma has 74. In the same ball park are ‘youngsters’ like Kevin Pietersen (123), Hashim Amla (54), Dale Steyn (60) and Jonathan Trott (40). Now it is difficult to imagine these names being referred to as ‘juniors’ by any stretch of imagination.

2.Nor is it true that in recent times, the older players have denied the juniors enough opportunity to play. Over the 2010 and 2011 seasons, Raina has played 53 games, Kohli 59 and Sharma 31 — contrast this with the seniors — Sachin with 13 games, Sehwag 24 and Gambhir 33. In terms of performance, most have done well; Sachin with an average of close to 55 tops the charts, and most of the others hover around the 45 mark, with Raina the only straggler at about 34.

So friends, one has to earn its place in the team. Why readers are forgetting that BCCI President is CSK team owner, Chief Selector of Indian team is mentor of CSK, Indian team captain is captain of CSK and hence no rotation for Raina, Dhoni, Ashwin, Jadega and entry- exit of players like Badri, Murli, Mukund and so on. Further there are now groups in the Indian Team. God save the Team India. Then there is big-mouth Gambhir. What is the stature of Gambhir before Sachin? Kahan Raja Bhoj (Sachin) and kahan Gangu Teli (Gambhir).

GOD SAVE THE INDIAN TEAM. AND THAT GOD IS SACHIN.

Great. This proves where Tendulkar stands against so called youngsters who were in and out of team for poor performance.

Thanx shailesh for the article. last CB series finals 117 & 91. WC Quarterfinal 56, WC Semi final 85. Centuries against strong teams Enland & South Africa in WC. there are so many such matches. Sachin deserves place in playing eleven as many days he wants to play for india.
GOD SAVE THE INDIAN TEAM. AND THAT GOD IS SACHIN.

Gambhir should learn to give respect to legends like Sachin
    • Humming  •  3 months ago
Gambhir dont give any statement like a legend... Hope you remember the great man's contribution to the cricket in India... not only in the past but in the present also.. No one in the cricket world is having such a great average after playing closed about 450 ODI's... Sachin never gave any statements in the past like you people doing it now...Once in a while you people score and give comments like a consistent player... But he never answer to the critics in words but through his performance...

You better know what you did in the test series against the Aussies..

I can bet you no one can be consistent as sachin including you little shit....

Form is temporary Class is Permanent...... Sachin is a complete batsman in form throughout his career with class.... Mind it You Big ear..

Sachin always be a great player even though if he is unable to get that precious milestone... He remains as a great legend...

Sachin supporters give a thumbs up-----Now even Gambhir has started to talk....finally in 12 innings he has been able to make a 92....now he can do the talking. Be rest assured he is not going to make above 50 in any of the remaining matches. This is one innings where he did not get out in the manner he has been getting out the entire season. We all know it has been months since sachin got a hundred. Does anyone remember when was the last time Gambhir,Sehwag,Dhoni got a hundered? People criticizing Sachin are actually addicted to Sachin. These people would have hardly played cricket only at school level.

Everybody cool down. Rotation policy is tested here. We'll find if it is right or wrong at the end of the series.

India won the ODI against Australia on Sunday, 12th Feb. 2012 at Adelaide. Luck was on Dhoni's part that he and Raina could hit sixes in the final overs. But one has to notice the number of deliveries Dhoni scored dots. In fact, even if he had scored singles from half the deliveries faced, India would have won by the 47th / 48th over. Dhoni did fail to rotate the strike.

As we all no who the god is only playing in 1 match & scoring 92 does'not mean he is a champion he has to bee consistent which he cannot be so stop making comment on sachin:)

i am all up for rotation provided its not biased...so far the rotation has benefited only 2 players
Rohit Sharma and Suresh Raina....my question is why not rotate fast bowlers and spinners as well...Play Rahul Sharma for R Ashwin and Irfan Pathan for Vinay Kumar..

There are hundreds of teenagers waiting to play for India. Indian players over the the age of 35 must retire gracefully. Individuals are not above the game itself. This is true for any game. Erstwhile players are doing a grave disservice to future of Indian Cricket by promoting the cause of older players at the expense of young talent. India belongs to the youth.
