Sydney, Feb 1 (ANI): Former Australian opener Michael Di Venuto has been appointed as the new batting coach for Australia and will take up the role for the upcoming Test tour of India.
Commenting on the appointment, Australian coach Mickey Arthur said that the coaching credentials of Di Venuto made him a good choice for his new role, during a busy year, which includes 10 Ashes Tests, the Sydney Morning Herald reports.
Arthur said that the board wanted a batting coach who was working within Australian cricket and who had also represented the country as a player, and added that Di Venuto fitted both the requirements.
Arthur further said that Di Venuto's appointment supported the coaching pathway plans of the board, which is an Argus review recommendation.
Di Venuto comes as a replacement for Stuart Law, who held the interim position for the past five Tests after fellow former Test batsman Justin Langer stepped down to coach Western Australia.
An aggressive left-handed opening batsman, Di Venuto played nine ODIs for Australia and 336 first-class matches for Tasmania, Derbyshire, Durham, Sussex and Italy. (ANI)
