First-ever elevated corridor ready to spread wings till INA market in Delhi

New Delhi, Feb 10 (ANI): The first-ever elevated corridor, which was commissioned during the Commonwealth Games from Sarai Kale Khan to Nehru Stadium, is now ready to spread its wings.

The dedicated corridor for the players and officials of the Games would now be extended upto INA Market under the IInd Phase.

Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Saturday laid the foundation stone for the extension of this elevated Barapullah flyover from Sarai Kale Khan to INA market.

Terming the latest initiative to be another feather in Delhi's crown, Dikshit said her government has also agreed to extend the elevated road from Sarai Kale Khan to Mayur Vihar under the third phase.

The commissioning of all the phases would reduce distance between East Delhi, Mayur Vihar, NOIDA and South and other parts of Delhi resulting in a big relief to the commuters and savings of fuel and valuable time. The cost of the first extension would be ' 530 crore and it would be commissioned at the earliest.

Dikshit stated that to utilize the elevated road constructed in Phase-I, this elevated road is being extended upto INA Market and various connectivities/ramp loops are to be constructed for elevated road already completed in Phase-I and those required in Phase-II.

The extension starting from Sarai Kale Khan to INA Market at Aurobindo Marg has already been cleared by UTTIPEC and ASI. The 3.98 km long extended elevated road would have dual carriageway of 9 meter each.

Total six loops would be constructed to provide connectivity from Barapulla Elevated Road towards Ashram, from Siddharth Enclave to Barapulla Elevated Road, from Lala Lajpat Rai Marg into the elevated corridor to Aurobindo Marg, near Sanchar Bhawan for movement from elevated corridor to Lala Lajpat Rai Marg, at Thyagraj Stadium from movement into the elevated corridor to Sarai Kale Khan and near Aurobindo Marg for movement from elevated corridor towards Safdarjung Airport.

Dikshit further said that her government has been concentrating on providing roads, flyovers, underpasses, underbridges, etc. as part of infrastructure of international standard.

"Delhi is bound to get another landmark in form of Signature Bridge which would not only make the congested Wazirabad Junction signal-free but would also bring an appreciable change in the traffic scenario in the Capital city," she added.

Meanwhile, Eat Delhi MP Sandeep Dikshit expressed confidence that the completion of the entire project of Barapullah elevated road would benefit lakhs of commuters every day and the traffic situation will further change with the commissioning of the monorail project in east Delhi.

PWD Minister Raj Kumar Chauhan said stated that PWD is ready to take up another mega projecting costing ' 3000 cr to make Outer Ring Road from Meera Bagh to Wazirabad signal-free.

Chouhan further stated that PWD has been able to take up mega project only because of generosity of Sheila Dikshit by sanctioning amount for the projects. The development taken place during last more than 14 years is being commended by one and all across the country. (ANI)
