Patna, June 23 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President, Rajnath Singh assailed former alliance partner Janata Dal-United (JD-U) for breaking ties with his outfit over elevation of Narendra Modi as the head of party's panel on polls and asked what is the fault of Narendra Modi?
He was addressing a public rally at Patna today.
The JD-U, the party in power in Bihar, split with BJP following the nomination of Narendra Modi as the head of the campaign committee for the 2014 elections.
On this issue, Rajnath Singh questioned as to what the crime is committed by Modi.
"What is fault of Narendra Modi? Has the Bharatiya Janata Party has committed mistake by giving reigns of election campaign committee to Modi. I want to ask my friends in the Janata Dal-U, whether don't you know the truth? Gujarat is model state of development in the world," said Singh.
Further he said Modi's elevation was part of strategy to win the upcoming 2014 polls."When elections are around the corner, every political party devises different strategies to win elections. We also made the some arrangements," added Rajnath Singh.
Modi is accused by critics of not doing enough to stop - or of even quietly encouraging - the communal riots in 2002 in which at least 1,000 people, mainly Muslims, were killed.
However, his appeal outside Gujarat is largely untested. Gujarat has been a BJP stronghold since the 1990s and benefited from a weak state-level opposition. But his campaigns on behalf of the party outside his home state have had mixed results. (ANI)
