Cairo, Feb 3 (IANS) The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) resumed the matches of local premier league without fans, after being banned for a year over deadly riots early February last year.
The season opening match Saturday was between title holders, Cairo-based Al-Ahly and Ghzal Al-Mahala of Gharbiya governorate at a military stadium here, where Al-Ahly won 1-0, reports Xinhua.
The league was suspended after last year's stampede at Port Said Stadium that followed a match between Port Said's Al-Masry and Cairo's Al-Ahly. The disaster left 74 killed and hundreds injured.
