Imphal (Manipur), Sept.20 (ANI):Family members of a deceased woman, Heisnam Somolini, have blamed doctors at a hospital here for her death after she was given an injection, which caused an allergic reaction.
The sister of the deceased, Anupama Devi, said doctors could have take a remedial action and saved her life.
"She used to often come to this hospital for check-ups. She was not suffering from any major disease. When the doctor gave her an injection, she felt something allergic. So, the doctors could have taken a measure after she complained. But they failed to take any step. We are unhappy with whatever happened," said Devi.
Police arrived at the hospital and were probing the case.
Orthopaedic surgeon K Ibohal Singh said Heisnam died due to some reaction of the medicine.
"I gave the injection on the back of the right shoulder. After that injection, her blood pressure suddenly went down and she could not be revived with oxygen and injections. She died. So, she probably died because of a reaction to the medicine," said Dr. Singh.
Dr. Singh apologised for Heisnam's death and urged that the matter should be resolved through peaceful negotiation.
Despite India's rapid economic growth, its healthcare system has remained in the doldrums and is struggling with high rates of maternal deaths. (ANI)
