Calcutta: Mohun Bagan captain Okolie Odafe credited teammates for the side's win on Friday.
"It was a very important win ahead of the Derby against East Bengal on February 9… I played well… But the credit should go to the entire team for the win," said Odafe.
The Nigerian goal-poacher said the win was a result of hard work. "The coach worked really hard with us for the last few months. The onus was on the players to execute the plans… I'm glad that the players could live up to the expectations today."
Bagan's other striker Tolgay Ozebe, who has scored in two consecutive matches, feels that the win will provide a massive confidence booster for the team.
"I think I'm gradually returning to form. It feels nice to score in two consecutive matches… I always love playing with Odafe. We are developing a good chemistry… Hopefully, we can continue scoring goals in the future also.
"We have a lot of important matches coming up including the Derby… So, it was important to notch up a win."
Coach Karim Bencharifa is also a relieved man after the win.
"The win gives us breathing space… There was enormous pressure on the players… It will give them the much-needed confidence which is needed to prepare for the Derby," Bencharifa signed off.
