Sydney, Mar 29 (ANI): New Zealand police has arrested and charged a 20-year man over an attack that has left Kiwi opener Jesse Ryder critically injured.
Detective Senior Sergeant Brian Archer announced the development at a news conference in Christchurch this morning, saying police were following positive lines of inquiry in their search for other persons, News.co.au reports.
Police said the man was interviewed on Wednesday night over his alleged involvement in an initial altercation with Ryder and he would appear in the Christchurch District Court on Thursday, the paper reported.
Ryder remains in a critical condition this morning, a day after the attack outside Aikman's bar in the Christchurch suburb of Merivale.
Police have spoken to witnesses and reviewed CCTV footage of the incident, which left Ryder with a fractured skull, punctured lung and other internal injuries.
The 28-year-old middle-order batsman is still in a coma and is in intensive care at Christchurch Hospital with his family are at his bedside.
The incident occurred while Ryder was having a night out with his Wellington team-mates after earlier losing a season-ending one-day match to Canterbury, the paper concluded. (ANI)
