Washington, Jan. 14 (ANI): Former Secretary of State Colin Powell has defended former Nebraska senator Chuck Hagel's qualifications to become the next defense secretary of the US, saying that he expected him to be confirmed.
In an interview with NBC News's 'Meet The Press,' Powell said that he thought Hagel will get confirmed, adding that he was 'ultimately superbly qualified' based on his overall record, based on his service to the country, based on how he feels about troops and veterans and families, and will do a great jobs as secretary of defense.
According to the Washington Post, Powell, who endorsed Hagel the day President Barack Obama announced his nomination, pushed back against concerns some senators have raised about Hagel's record on Iraq, Iran and Israel.
Powell said that there are people who are very supportive of the state of Israel, adding that he is very supportive of the state of Israel and so is Hagel, the report added. (ANI)
