Sydney, Jan 7(ANI): Australia captain Michael Clarke has said his young team is still a work in progress following their 3-0 whitewash of touring Sri Lanka team, and added the team needs to get more consistent with their performances ahead of a tough tour to India.

Clarke said it is very thorny for any team to play in the fourth innings of a Test match, which are played on spin-friendly wickets in the sub-continent, and advised his players to improve their technique against slow bowling, the Sydney Morning Herald reports.

Clarke said there is no better opportunity for his young players to get better and prove their worth than on the sub-continental conditions.

Australia has only the four-Test tour of India to lift its game to a level that can first reclaim then retain the urn in back-to-back Ashes campaigns in the next 12 months.

Clarke said on good days the Australian team can match with the best, adding they had shown their class in patches against South Africa, however, Clarke believes at the moment the team hasn't been consistent enough.

Clarke said the team needs to work hard to improve further as there is lot of scope for it, and added that the team would benefit from playing in tough conditions in their upcoming series. (ANI)
