Kohima, Jan. 17: A workshop on early cancer detection and survey was held at the conference hall of Naga Hospital here today.
Organised by the state department of health and family welfare in association with BLK Cancer Centre, New Delhi, the workshop was attended by the commissioner and secretary, health and family welfare, Sentiyanger Imchen, as the chief guest.
Addressing the inaugural function, Imchen said learning was a life-long process and one needed to learn continuously in the field of medicine.
He said it was essential for doctors and nurses to keep in touch with the latest medical equipment and technology.
Imchen said cancer had become a big problem in the state and felt that it was high time to take measures to check it.
He said the department cannot depend on the funds from the Centre to fight cancer and instructed that for the year 2013-14 sufficient amount from the state fund should be earmarked to tackle cancer. The workshop was attended by Dr R. Ranga Rao, director, BLK Centre, New Delhi.
