Break will help Delhi Daredevils says Mahela

Delhi Daredevils captain Mahela Jayawardene believes the five- day break they have got after defeating the Kolkata Knight Riders will help them in upcoming matches in the Champions League Twenty20.

“It’s been good, an unusual gap for us. We just needed to make sure that we had a couple of good practice sessions, and the boys had a bit of free time as well. For some guys, it is good because they had played a lot of cricket, so it’s bit of a breathing space,” Jayawardene said ahead of the team’s game on Friday against Auckland Aces in Durban.

“But once we start, we know that we have three back- toback matches. So, the focus has been to make sure that we prepare ourselves for that. It is a big game for us tomorrow and we can’t take anything for granted. We just need to make sure we just keep improving on the things we did right against Kolkata and keep the momentum going forward,” he said.

Asked if the team would play to its strength and go with an allpace attack against the team from New Zealand, Jayawardene said: “ It depends on the wicket. We will have a look at it and go back to the drawing board and see what’s the best combination that we can come up with. We have a lot of options at our disposal, so [ we will] see the opposition and see what’s going to be the best team that we could put out on the park tomorrow.”
