Bangalore, Jan 30 (IANS) Giving a strong second-half performance, ONGC opened their campaign in the 27th Federation Cup basketball tournament with a commanding 83-56 win over South Central Railway here Wednesday.
Boasting of an array of quality players majority of whom were part of the Uttarakhand team, winners of the men's crown in the recent senior National championship in Ludhiana, trailed 33-39 after two quarters, but came roaring back after the break to stamp their authority.
Also recording a win in the men's section was Indian Overseas Bank from Chennai who routed Jind District, Haryana, 96-48 after overcoming early resistance.
In the women's section, Tamil Nadu drubbed Andhra Pradesh 60-20 while Maharashtra overcame a fighting Chattisgarh 73-62 and Kerala edged past hosts Karnataka 85-29 after shrugging off a 10-point deficit at the halfway mark.
