Ahmedabad, Dec 20 (ANI): Chief Minister Narendra Modi was on Thursday delighted with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leading in the Gujarat assembly polls, and said that there was 'no need of looking behind'.

"No need of looking behind, FORWARD! We want infinite energy, infinite courage, infinite patience," he tweeted.

Modi was leading in Ahmedabad's Maninagar constituency. At the end of first round of counting, Modi is way ahead of his Congress rival Shweta Bhatt.

Maninagar is a Modi stronghold and he has held this seat since 2002. Modi, who is looking at a third consecutive term at the helm in Gujarat, defeated the Congress candidate by around 75,000 votes in 2007.

Modi is being seen by many as a potential Prime Ministerial candidate for the BJP in 2014.

According to latest reports, the BJP is leading in 117 seats, while the Congress alliance is ahead in 63 seats.

There are 182 assembly seats in Gujarat and a party needs at least 92 seats to get a sole majority and form the government.

The BJP has fielded its candidates for all the 95 seats in this phase. The Congress is contesting on 92 seats, while the Gujarat Parivartan Party (GPP) of Keshubhai Patel has fielded its candidates for 84 seats. (ANI)
