Sydney, June 24 (ANI): Australian captain Michael Clarke has resigned as a selector after Cricket Australia sacked cricket coach Mickey Arthur two weeks before the start of the Ashes
The decision to grant the captain and coach selection powers was a key principle of the Argus review in 2011.
According to the Age, it is not clear whether new coach Darren Lehmann will retain the selection role.
It is known that Clarke had differences of opinion on key selection issues with chairman of selectors, John Inverarity.
Clarke's relationship with some of his senior players, most notably his former deputy, has been central to some of the cultural problems in the Australian team during past few months, the report said.
Clarke has been part of the selection panel that made tough decisions such as leaving Brad Haddin out of the Test team last summer, it added. (ANI)
