Assam lad in final

Guwahati, Jan. 10: Assam lad Parikshit Somani made it to the final of the under-14 and under-18 boys' singles and finished runners-up in under-18 doubles in the AITA Championship Series Tennis Tournament in Calcutta today.

He overcame local boy Arghyya Das 1-6, 7-5, 6-1 in the under-14 semis and will meet Nitin Sinha in the final tomorrow. In the under-18 semis, he beat Haryana boy Yuvraj Singh 2-6, 6-4, 6-4. Somani teamed up with Sunil Jagtiani of Bengal to go down to Richi Agarwal (Bengal) and R. Robinson (Tamil Nadu) in the under-18 doubles final. The latter won 6-7, 7-6, 7-5.

CC soccer: Zomi Football Club beat Nambulmapal Athletic Club Organisation by 3-1 goals to book a berth in the quarter-finals of the 56th Sir Churachand memorial football tournament at Mapal Kangjeibung today.
