1,854 new gram panchayat posts in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 23 (IANS) Kerala has sanctioned 1,854 new posts to expedite development in 990 'gram panchayats' of the state, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said Wednesday.

Speaking to reporters after the weekly cabinet meeting here, Chandy said the village councils were facing shortage of staff and development works were affected.

"We decided to sanction one clerk post in each of the 990 local bodies in the state and also 864 posts of assistant secretary in all local bodies," said Chandy.

This is the single largest recruitment being made in one department.
