That was coach Duncan Fletcher’s reaction when The Telegraph informed him about India’s return to the No.1 spot in the International Cricket Council’s ODI rankings.

Fletcher was given the news as he headed for breakfast at the Radisson Blu in Ranchi on Sunday, around an hour before the team’s departure for Chandigarh.

As the confirmation came late on Saturday, some hours after India’s emphatic win in the third ODI against England, the local dailies there weren’t able to report it on the morning-after.

That’s why the pleasant surprise.

While the under-fire Fletcher’s was rather a business-like response, young Bhuvneshwar Kumar, for example, was distinctly over the moon.

Speaking exclusively, again at the Ranchi hotel, Kumar said: “It’s a dream-like situation... It’s great to be a member of a team which is at the very top... Bahut hi khushi ki baat hai. Is se aur zyada kya?”

Bhuvneshwar, 22, made his debut less than a month ago and has straightaway made an impact with his swing bowling.

The last time that India had been No.1, just for a day, was in September 2009 after defeating New Zealand in the Compaq Cup in Sri Lanka.

It’s interesting that only four from that XI featured in Ranchi — captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina and Ishant Sharma.

The 2009 XI included Sachin Tendulkar, who has quit ODIs, and Rahul Dravid, who has retired from all formats.

Virat Kohli, the MoM on Saturday, was among the reserves when India achieved a first, in Sri Lanka.

Senior pro Yuvraj, for his part, remarked: “Thank you (for the news).”
