Formerly known as Bogra District Stadium it hosted its first test between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka from March 8-11, 2006. In the same year they also hosted their first ODI between the above mentioned teams on February 20, 2006. One of the five purpose-built cricket grounds established for the under-19 world cup in 2004, it was granted international status in 2006. While setting up the cricket stadium itself has been remarkable, the recent construction of a four-star hotel brings the city into line with ICC lodging requirements too.
