Picture of Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), Melbourne

Australia's premier sporting venue, the Melbourne Cricket Ground is famous for two things – it's the biggest cricket stadium in the world, and second, its light towers are the tallest for any sporting venue. Essentially a multi-sport facility, 'The G' as it is referred to in common parlance, the Melbourne Cricket Ground can accommodate over a 100,000 people. While cricket is the main summer sport at the MCG, during winters, the MCG serves as home to Aussie rules football. Host to the first-ever Test match and the first-ever One Day International, the MCG has since gone on to regularly host Australia's customary 'Boxing Day' Test matches. In existence since 1853, 'The G' has also played host to Olympic Games and the Commonwealth Games. Home to the Victorian Bushrangers, the MCG was recently added to the Australian Heritage Register, making it a heritage site. Memorable moments here include the underarm delivery by Trevor Chappell, Pakistan winning the 1992 World Cup and Darrell Hair no-balling Muralitharan for throwing.
