County Ground (Racecourse Ground)

The peculiar feature of this ground is that it used to be located inside the town’s racecourse. The lack of changing-rooms, made the players use the old jockeys’ quarters. The course was scrapped in 1939 due to poor crowds and the cricket square was then set up to increase revenue for the ground. The ground has undergone some detailed development, because of which watching cricket is now a pleasurable experience for the Derbyshire fans. Some parts of the stadium have been sold off to a leisure company and the Grandstand has a whole range of facilities for players, spectators and media. Perhaps the most famous part of the ground is Carol’s Cabin, a food caravan that serves some of best pies on the county circuit. The first ODI to be held here was between New Zealand and Sri Lanka on June 18, 1983.
