This stadium in the laidback city of Cuttack hosted only the third one-day international in this country in January 1982. The first test was hosted five years later between India and New Zealand from January 4-7, 1987. The most memorable moment on this ground was when Kapil Dev picked up his 300th wicket. The location though has always been its biggest drawback. Visiting sides in the past have sometimes expressed their qualms about having to travel from Bhubaneshwar, an hour’s drive away, because of the lack of an airport and of quality accommodation in Cuttack.
