India have finally bowled Sri Lanka out for 269 and won the match by an innings and 144 runs. With this, the hosts have taken a 1-0 lead in the series and skipper MS Dhoni has kept his record of not losing a Test match intact, extending the streak to 9. They were on top thorughout the match with the splendid batting effort on Day 1 which saw Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag get India off to a great start, sharing a 233 run opening stand. Rahul Dravid went on to score his second century in the series as well which was followed by contributions from Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman and Yuvraj Singh that helped India post a mammoth 642. The Sri Lankan batsmen were always under pressure in their first innings and Sreesanth led India's assault with a five wicket haul in his comeback match. The hosts picked up 14 wickets on Day 3 and pushed Sri Lanka into a tight corner, with almost no hope of saving the match. Harbhajan Singh and Pragyan Ojha bowled consistently throughout and picked up a chunk of the wickets on the final day as India wrapped things up soon after Lunch. Sreesanth was adjudged Man of the Match for his six wickets in the match, that were critical in India bowling Sri Lanka out twice.
