Injured Siddle to fly home from India ODI series

Reuters, 03 November 2009

CHENNAI (Reuters) - Fast bowler Peter Siddle will return home after becoming the latest member of Australia's touring party to be forced out of the one-day series in India.

Siddle experienced stiffness in his left side during the tourists' 24-run victory in the fourth one-day international in Mohali on Monday in which he bowled five overs.

Australia won the low-scoring match to level the seven-match series 2-2 with game five to be played in Hyderabad on Thursday.

"Peter's injury does not appear to be a serious problem but it is unlikely he will be able to safely bowl within the next week which would therefore not allow him to have any further participation in the tour," a Cricket Australia statement said on Tuesday.

"With this in mind we have made the decision that Peter will return to Australia where he will (be) reviewed by Cricket Australia medical staff to ensure he is available for selection at the beginning of the Australian summer."

A replacement has yet to be named.

Strike bowler Brett Lee, all-rounder James Hopes and stand-in wicketkeeper Tim Paine have already returned home with injuries while first choice wicketkeeper Brad Haddin, vice-captain Michael Clarke and left-arm seamer Nathan Bracken did not make the tour due to injuries.

i feel really sorry for aussies. They are too much fragile now in this series.Still they are able to beat india 2-2. Thats great. Dont mistake me i am a very true indian fan.I love our indian team than any other team in the world. But apart from that sportsmanship is altogether a different thing. I think australia have almost without all of their matchwinners in this series.leave ponting and hussey.i think all others are just not there. But look at the injury list Micheal hussey, Brad haddin, james hopes,Nathan Bracken,Brett Lee, Tim paine,Stuart clarke. I dont know why aussies have left Brad Hodge, Callum Ferguson. The list itself tells you how many great players at the same time they have missed. Now add Petter siddle to that list. Even though it is No.1 side still to fill this much void is very large. Thats Why even having these many injuries still they are 2-2.Thats great. Many would have forget that during ICC CT jadeja told that indian public will forget all the Champions Trophy losses once india play a home series just win it.Thats all. Then all the public will tell india is no.1 team.Thats not right. To getting No.1 spot is not a great things. You should keep that spot atleast for 3 years continously.Thats what australia did after 96 world cup. They have been No.1 team after 96 world cup from world cup 99- world cup 2007. Almost 2 years they are unbeatable. Thats ofcourse because of some great cricketers like steve waugh, micheal bevan, andrew symonds, adam gilchrist, ricky ponting, michael clarke, mike hussey, jason gillespie, shane warne,Glenn mcgrath, brett lee. Hereafter even australia cannot perform like this like what they have performed during that period. But still if india have to be no.1 u need to perform more over a consistent period of time outside of india and inside india. thats important.

To lose siddle at half way stage of the series is a great lose for australia. bcz he was giving a good service to aussi pase attack at india. I will be happy to see him soon & playing for australia. I thing australia can beat the bloody indians without siddle, brett lee......

    A welcome development

We have seen the referral system tried out at Wimbledon and it worked really well. There is no reason to believe that it will not work in cricket too.

    Strauss must re-exert his authority

The tourists missed Strauss's conviction in marshalling the side in the field and his batting is always valuable because he is such a fluid player when he is in form.
