Bhiwani boy Sunny smashes triple ton

Hindustantimes, 05 November 2009

New Delhi, Nov. 4 -- Bhiwani is best known for producing boxers but the Mughal city of commerce now also has a cricketing hero.

Leading the Haryana Ranji team against Madhya Pradesh at Indore, Sunny Singh scored the first triple century in this year's fledgling season. He also became Haryana's first triplecenturion.

Sunny scored 321 off 337 balls (4x44, 6x7). This was his seventh first-class hundred. Talking to HT from Indore, Sunny said: "I am thrilled to find my name in the record book. Batting for 4 hours and 6 minutes was tough, but later I realised that I'd to reach the triple ton mark," he said. "It's special being the first triple centurion of the season, but what makes it more so is that it's the first from my state. My goal this year will be to lift the team to the Elite Group," Sunny added. Last year, the all-rounder had signed a contract with the Kolkata Knight Riders and played the IPL-2. But he ran out of luck as he had to return after an injury during practice before the tournament began.

    A welcome development

We have seen the referral system tried out at Wimbledon and it worked really well. There is no reason to believe that it will not work in cricket too.

    Strauss must re-exert his authority

The tourists missed Strauss's conviction in marshalling the side in the field and his batting is always valuable because he is such a fluid player when he is in form.
